In the context of the International Volunteer day 2022, AML and ATOL staff volunteered to clean up the motorway leading to the SSR International Airport. This initiative aims at contributing to the national efforts being made to improve the cleanliness of the country. At the end of the activity, some 10,200L of waste, including 4000L of PET bottles were collected from the roads.
AML and ATOL will continue to work together to implement additional initiatives for a "Cleaner Airport Environment."
SSR International Airport again distinguished itself during the ACI World–Africa Annual General Assembly, Conference & Exhibition 2022 held in Morocco end of October. Indeed, during a special Awards Ceremony hosted by ACI Africa, AML received the Safety Award 2022—Excellence in Safety Management System for the Eastern Africa Region.
This recognition comes at an opportune time where traffic is gradually picking up and where the sector needs all the incentives it can take to put it back firmly on the way of recovery.
AML signed an agreement with the CEB for the setting up of a Solar Photovoltaic Facility at the airport. AML is thus among the 17 pioneer public bodies which partnered with the CEB under its Greenfield Renewable Energy Scheme.
This major initiative aims at implementing Government's endeavour of further privileging the production and use of renewable energy so as to develop a more resilient energy mix for the country. With the setting up of a Solar Farm at SSR International Airport, AML is working towards significantly reducing its carbon footprint and enhancing the sustainability of its airport operations.
